Mutants have evolved from humans, developed special powers like reading minds and walking through walls. Many are feared and hated by humans, who are quick to resist change and fear the unknown. Most mutants aren't that dangerous, and don't want to be, but there are those who sense a coming war between mutants and humans and are more than ready to fight.

Mutants usually discover what they are around puberty, when their powers start manifesting. A mutant whose powers appear at birth is called Changling. More than developing strange powers from their mutations, mutants receive other benefits as well. They have a high resistance to disease, especially viral and genetic diseases. It also appears that radiation does not affect mutants.
