David Eldred knelt by the lake and looked at his reflection in the water. It looked so ordinary, so human. Aside from the aged wisdom and pain in his eyes that probably only he could see, he looked peaceful. He was anything but. If only people could see what lay under the skin, the monster inside him. The demon that came out whenever he was angry, and someone always got hurt. People ran from him, even those closest to him. And run they should.
He sighed and sat down on the pebbly shore. He grabbed one of the stones and skipped it across the lake, watching it as it hit three times before sinking below the surface. Times changed, but nothing ever would for him. He was stuck, frozen.
